Slumdog Millionaire revisited

Lush green valleys and sparkling waters
Stench of the feces and billowing gutters
One they cheer, the other they fear
They applaud the slum-dog and chide the millionaire

When the country is bombed and people despaired
They condemn the act and assure us their aid
When we protect ourselves by strengthening the atoms
They treat us with distrust, they put us on sanctions

Whenever a country becomes a haven of crime
They furnish the arms and finance the grime
Like a sharpshooter preparing to hit bull’s eye
They brand the same as terror and attack on the sly

When the economy drops and capitalism fumbles
The credits collapse and the leadership grumbles
Their common man is drowned in total destitution
Still they are the only super-power in question

What keeps them going? What motivates them?
Why can’t they avoid the peril right at the helm?
Why cant they look at where they are going?
Slum-dogs at heart and Millionaires in bearing!!
